LocalBitcoins helps Britons get out of the pound – reduced trading fees until October
HELSINKI, Finland – September 2nd 2016 – LocalBitcoins today announced a reduction in trading fees until October in order to help Britons get out of the pound after the Brexit vote on June 23rd.
Over the years the UK has been an important market for LocalBitcoins, especially in 2012, the year when the exchange was founded. The UK helped solidify the future of LocalBitcoins by being the first market to see growth in P2P trading which gave LocalBitcoins enough money to hire their first employee.
This year LocalBitcoins had to watch as their friends in the UK suffered through hard times after the results of the Brexit vote on June 23rd. Since then the value of the pound has gradually drop in value by 16%.
LocalBitcoins remembers the support the UK gave the exchange in those early days, now it’s time for LocalBitcoins to give back and help the UK get out of the pound before it’s too late.
“Great Britain was the first market where Localbitcoins markets become liquid, and the income from there allowed us to have more than one person focusing on the project full time.” said LocalBitcoins ,CEO Nikolaus Kangas.“The trading community is there really active, and we have always kept our eye closely on UK market. Now with the possible #brexit, UK might become even more interesting market for bitcoin users. Therefore with this campaign we really want to spread awareness of bitcoin in UK, so those who seek alternative solutions can find them.”
From this Monday, the 5th of September, LocalBitcoins will halve the trading fee from the current 1 % to 0.5 % for all Bitcoin trades done in the UK*. The reduced fee will be active for trades started between Monday the 5th of September at 12:00:01 AM UTC and 11:59:59 pm UTC October 2nd.
